Fashion Design
Welcome to the Department of Fashion & Textiles at The Glasgow School of Art.
The BA(Hons) Fashion Design and BA(Hons) Textile Design programmes create highly specialised subject experts in an ‘expert amongst experts’ environment which values the interactive, synergetic and ever evolving nature of Fashion Design and Textile Design.
Both programmes are delivered in the same studio, which is unique in Fashion and Textile education. By sitting next to each other, students soon recognize the interdependent characteristics of the two subject areas and value the experience and the creative opportunities it affords.
Also, in terms of cloth and clothing traditions, Scotland enjoys an evocative and distinguished history. Fair Isle, Shetland and Sanquhar knits, Turkey Red printed cloth, the Paisley, Harris Tweed, Ayrshire Whitework needlework and the Mackintosh raincoat are all instantly recognisable for their quality, integrity and supreme cottage industry skill or classic manufacturing and making techniques. This notion of quality, integrity and expert skill underpins the Fashion and Textile Design undergraduate programmes at the GSA.
Be safe, be well and enjoy,
