My work is centred around activating spaces that allow for existing cultural life to develop, and new culture to emerge and grow. It is concerned with the intersections between program, social and local architecture and architectural gestures. I’m particularly inspired by how spaces for music, performance, events and creativity bring people together within the city, and interested in the manifestation of community projects and DIY culture in design.
a (counter) cultural edge and island, Antwerp :
How can an architecture for informal performance activate parts of the city which are bypassed, and provide significant platforms for an existing grassroots scene within the city, which is currently physically dispersed and politically ignored? Through contributing to – whilst questioning- the use of public space, how is the ‘island’ and the ‘edge’’s potential realised, and the spaces activated ?
