Vivien Wan Ting Neoh has just completed Stage 4 at the Mackintosh School of Architecture. The following images are taken from the Urban Housing project, sited in Merchant City in Glasgow. Often housing is planned with the nuclear family unit in mind: two parents with children. As society evolves to become include new living situations – multigenerational families, single parents, young urban workers, the traditional three-bedroom apartment may no longer be suited to the needs of everyone. This project considers how apartment types for three different groups of people: multigenerational families, live-at-home professionals and artisans whose dedicated workspace is located in proximity to their homes. The project also explores the inclusion of levels in a single living unit, in contrast to typical flats which spaces are spread out on one floor.
