Spike Wright

Spike is a multi-disciplinary artist, specialising in moving image. Currently based in Glasgow, graduating from Communication Design Photography. Though the beginning of his exploration into film began with screenplay and narrative-based projects, in recent works he has explored the telling of true stories through documentary filmmaking having made pieces for clients such as The Scottish Football Association and Sailor Jerry.

The project showcased is a focus on the town of Saltcoats on the west coast of Scotland. The centre of the project is a documentary about the Saltcoats Labour Social Club and its members. The documentary conveys the mundane experiences that the members of the club value highly at the club. Alongside the documentary, a collection of stationary, photograph-like films of the town of Saltcoats were to be displayed in an exhibition surrounding the Labour Club documentary to give the mundane element context.
