As a design engineer, I am motivated by the challenge of developing solutions to enhance the user experience of a product or system. I approach design problems with an open mind and from a holistic point of view. My work explores the impact of the external environment on our body and mind aiming to bring harmony into our lives. I follow an iterative process, involving empathic mapping and user engagement.
My product WorkLed is the result of my masters project, A Happier and Healthier Workplace, exploring the application of innovative LED technology in tackling the problem of poor lighting conditions within working office environments. Current workplaces have no regulations for sufficient healthy lighting, and existing products demonstrate impracticalities of form and interaction. The Lighting Research Centre highlights the benefits of specific lighting conditions with emphasis on the sleep and wake cycle.
WorkLed is a new desk lamp which provides healthy working light levels and circadian regulation. My product aims to transform stigmatised perceptions of therapy lamps into an engaging and satisfying yet practical experience for the user. I defined three light settings in order to optimize light throughout the working day. The user can personalise their light by choosing between stimulating blue light, task light and smart ambient light.
