Joseph Clark

A fascination with science-fiction, dystopia and political film has directed my way of thinking, in that the eerie feelings of disorientation and unease are conditions that appear often in my work. I aim to reimagine these ‘moods’ as systems quietly working underneath the surface, systems that lead to a falling away of familiarity and a feeling of absorption into the world, flipping the view of unease and disorientation as not going into oneself but rather expanding out into the world.

For me, a sense of defamiliarisation has patterns to it. Through photography, writing and programming I experiment with these collective and individual moods in different forms so as to make it tangible and give myself a better understanding of them.
